Conquering

So tonight for family home evening, Kyle wanted to sing a song that it turns out I didn’t know the words to, “Carry On.” So for our closing song, I convinced Kyle to sing “As Sisters in Zion.” I wasn’t sure if he knew all the words, but he told me he did and that it was fine. There’s a line in the song that talks about comforting the weary. Instead of singing “Comfort the weary,” however, Kyle sang “We’ll conquer the weary and strengthen the weak.”

They’re the last lines of the verse, and he kept going back over trying to figure out where the word conquer fit into the song. I kept telling him that the word conquer does not appear at all in the song.

I’m almost surprised he didn’t just sing “We’ll conquer the weary and oppress the weak.”
